MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Dr. Thomas McCarter of North Oaks was selected as the Minnesota Dental Association’s Guest of Honor at the Association’s annual convention, the Star of the North Meeting at St. Paul’s RiverCentre.
Throughout his 46-year career, Dr. McCarter’s leadership roles have spanned both state and national pediatric dental organizations, the Saint Paul District Dental Society, the MDA, the ADA, the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, the Central Regional Dental Testing Service (CRDTS) and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
He received numerous honors over the years, including: U.S. Army Dental Corps Certificate of Achievement Award, the American Society of Dentistry for Children Award of Excellence, the Minnesota Board of Dentistry Distinguished Service Award, the Saint Paul District Dental Society Outstanding Service Award, and Fellowship in the American College of Dentists, as well as many others.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1965, Dr. McCarter began a private pediatric dental practice that continued until his retirement in 2011. During those years he was on the faculty of the School of Dentistry, was a member of the Minnesota Board of Dentistry for many years and served as its president, was on the steering committee of CRDTS for several years and a regional examiner, served as president of the University of Minnesota’s Century Club, was on the dental staff at St. Paul Children’s Hospital and served as Chief of Staff, was president of the Minnesota Association of Pedodontists, and was president of Minnesota’s American Society of Dentistry for Children. In addition, he was an active member of the Saint Paul District Dental Society and its Speakers Bureau for many years and served as a delegate to the MDA and an alternate delegate to the ADA House of Delegates.
