MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Dr. John Conry was chosen as the recipient of the Minnesota Dental Association’s 2013 Humanitarian Service Award. He was honored by almost 9,000 dental professionals in attendance at the MDA’s recent annual convention, the Star of the North Meeting at St. Paul’s RiverCentre.
Dr. Conry received his Bachelor of Dental Science degree from the University of Dublin, Ireland, and his Masters in Dentistry from the University of Minnesota. He practiced in Dublin and London before relocating to Minnesota and establishing a dental practice in Duluth, where he now treats some of the most severe pediatric dental pathology cases in northern Minnesota, including a large number of public program patients. He also served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he was the chair of the Pediatric Department for ten years. During that time he mentored dental and post-doctoral students and led the school’s student volunteer dental mission to Jamaica. His volunteer work has also included providing shadowing opportunities in his private practice for both high school and college students interested in dental careers.
Over the years Dr. Conry has been a passionate advocate for infant oral exams by general dentists and is an active participant in school-based dental health programs, including Just Kids Dental and Smiles Across Minnesota.
Dr. Conry has also been actively involved in organized dentistry over the years, including being a member of the Duluth Dental Forum and serving as president of the Northeastern District Dental Society and the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also an avid supporter of local charitable organizations and the Duluth Art Institute.
The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans. You can learn more at www.mndental.org.
