Types of Membership
Membership in the Minnesota Dental Association is available to dentists and dental students. Review the different types of membership listed below to see which one best suits your situation. Most of our members are Tripartite members. Application forms/information are included with the membership descriptions.
Tripartite Membership
Dentists who practice or reside in the state of Minnesota are eligible for Active Membership in the Tripartite. Complete the online application or mail your completed tripartite membership application form to the Minnesota Dental Association.
Graduate Student Membership
Graduate student membership is available in the ADA and MDA to any dentist who is engaged full-time in a residency or advanced education program of not less than one academic year’s duration in a program accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. If you are entering a graduate program immediately following dental school graduation, graduate student membership maintains your eligibility for the ADA Recent Graduate Reduced Dues Program.
Retired Member Membership
Retired Membership is available to an active member in good standing who has been an active member and is now a retired member of a constituent society, if such exists, and is no longer earning an income from the performance of service as a member of the faculty of a dental school, as a dental administrator or consultant, or as a practitioner of any activity for which a license to practice dentistry or dental hygiene is required by the state. Fill out the affidavit and send to the MDA office.
Limited practice Membership
If your net earnings are between $1 and $50,000 a year from your practice or knowledge of dentistry, you would qualify for the MDA limited time practice/professional leave category, with a discount of 75 percent off of MDA and district dues.
To obtain limited income practice/professional leave status at the MDA and local district level, you must sign an affidavit stating your net earnings are between $1 and $50,000 from your practice or knowledge of dentistry. The affidavit must be approved by your local dental society yearly.
Student Membership
A student enrolled in the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry who is in pursuit of a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree who has been accepted as a member of the Minnesota Student Dental Association may become a student member. Membership dues cover membership in ASDA, ADA, Minnesota Dental Association and the Minnesota Student District Dental Society.
